What is Builders insurance?

Builders insurance is a non-specific term covering a wide array of possible insurances carried by your builder.

In Australia it refers mostly to home warranty insurance or construction liability insurances.

Make sure any insurance your builder claims to have is checked.

Always request copies of their insurance certificates (whether it's a certificate of insurance or a copy of the policy) and check they are current and valid for the full term of the project.

If you have any doubts at all, just phone or email their insurer and ask.

Anything except a quick yes always means no.

Bear in mind also that many (most) building jobs take longer than first planned, so be sure to take a closer look at the expiration date along with the extension and limit of coverage.
